About Kamstrup
Kamstrup stands as the global leader in manufacturing system solutions for intelligent energy and water metering. Combining smart meters with advanced software tailored for the water supply sector, Kamstrup's solutions facilitate leak detection, distribution network monitoring, and reduction of non-revenue water, among other functionalities.
About the project
To maintain its market-leading position and live up to its ambition of “revolutionising the supply of clean water and energy through intelligent solutions”, Kamstrup initiated a modernisation of its software platform. The primary goals included accelerating innovation, and ensuring seamless delivery across multiple end-user devices.
As part of this modernisation initiative, Kamstrup wanted a new platform for running their applications. The platform would ensure that Kamstrup offers the best and fastest delivery of services within water solutions. The solution involved Netic's Contain as a fully managed service.
Contain is Netic's in-house developed application platform, based on Kubernetes. Designed to provide a comprehensive and secure infrastructure, it supports container and hardware scaling, resource management, workload prioritisation and application isolation.
A multi-track collaboration
In addition to Netic, Trifork is also part of Kamstrup's solution.
Seeking a partner capable of supporting their business model and delivering cutting-edge software, Kamstrup chose Trifork and their data platform, Cheetah.
This platform became a vital component in Kamstrup's overall setup, supporting developers in processing real-time data streaming, data storage, and data governance in an enterprise-oriented environment.
The combined efforts of Trifork and Netic resulted in significant resource savings for Kamstrup, accelerating development and making their setup more flexible, faster, and secure. This has also enabled Kamstrup to offer faster delivery of new innovations in the future, making it easier for them to fulfil their customers' needs.
Public Cloud Platform
Kamstrup did not want vendor lock-in in their setup. Instead, they wanted a public cloud model that would give them full data control in terms of both operations and hosting. Operating with critical infrastructure, Kamstrup prioritized a solution adhering to ISO 27000 standards, and both Trifork and Netic supported this requirement.
Kamstrup's new platform solution is hosted in Azure Public Cloud, chosen to meet data requirements, including General Data Protection Regulations and data security.
The solution can easily be deployed in countries with Azure data centres (data centre regions). As Azure data centres are located in many countries, it is easy for Kamstrup to meet customer requirements for "local hosting" of data where applicable. Thus, Kamstrup already has the solution running in several places around the world, including the US.
